What does Extract Fonts do?

PDFs usually embed the fonts they use, so the document looks the same on every device. Those fonts are stored inside the file, either in full or as a subset that contains only the characters used in the document.

This tool lets you extract fonts from PDF files online: it pulls out the embedded font files so you can see which fonts the PDF uses and reuse them where their license allows.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Drag and drop a PDF into the box above, or click Select PDF file.

  2. 2

    Extract the fonts

Click Extract fonts. The PDF is processed on our servers and its embedded fonts are collected.

  3. 3

    Download the fonts

A single font is downloaded as is; several fonts are downloaded together as a ZIP.

Why use it

Get fonts from PDF documents to find out which typeface a designer used, without guessing from screenshots.

Match an existing design

Keep new documents consistent with brochures, reports or templates you only have as PDFs.

Check what a PDF embeds

Confirm which fonts are embedded before you send a file to print or archive it.

Privacy and file handling

Your PDF is uploaded over an encrypted connection and processed on our servers. It is deleted immediately after the fonts are sent back to you — we don't keep a copy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract fonts from a PDF?

Upload the PDF above, click Extract fonts and download the result. You get one font file, or a ZIP if the PDF embeds several fonts.

How can I see which fonts a PDF uses?

Extracting the fonts is a quick way to list the PDF's fonts online: the downloaded files are the fonts embedded in the document.

Why are some fonts missing?

Some PDFs only reference a font without embedding it, often common system fonts. Fonts that aren't embedded can't be extracted.

Why doesn't the extracted font have every character?

Many PDFs embed a subset of a font that contains only the characters used in the document, so other characters aren't in the file.

Can I use the fonts I extract?

Fonts are licensed software. Extracting a font doesn't give you the right to use it — check the font's license before installing or reusing it.

Do you keep my files?

No. Files are deleted from our servers immediately after processing.
