Remove PDF Metadata Online

Delete hidden metadata from PDFs and images — author names, dates, software tags and photo location data — before you share them.

What does Delete Metadata do?

Every PDF and image carries information you can't see on the page. PDFs store document properties such as the author, title, subject, keywords, the application that created the file, and when it was created and last modified. Photos carry EXIF data that can include the camera or phone model, the date and time the picture was taken and, often, the GPS location where it was taken.

This tool lets you remove PDF metadata and strip EXIF data from images online, so the file you share contains your content and nothing else.

Remove AI metadata from ChatGPT and Gemini images

AI image generators label what they create. Images made with ChatGPT carry C2PA Content Credentials — signed metadata recording that the image was generated by an AI tool — and Google's Gemini can add similar AI-generation tags. Social networks and photo apps read this metadata to show labels such as "Made with AI".

Delete Metadata strips this embedded metadata together with EXIF and XMP data, so the downloaded image no longer carries the C2PA manifest or the AI-generation tags.

What it doesn't remove: Google's SynthID is an invisible watermark woven into the pixels themselves rather than stored as metadata, so removing metadata leaves it in place. Visible watermarks or logos drawn on the image aren't removed either.

Some platforms require AI-generated images to be disclosed. Removing the metadata doesn't change those rules.

Why use it

Protect your identity

PDF author fields often contain your full name or your computer's user name. Delete PDF metadata online before sending a document to people outside your organization.

Hide where a photo was taken

Phone cameras can save GPS coordinates inside every photo. Removing EXIF data keeps your home or workplace location private.

Share documents professionally

Old titles, internal file names and editing software tags can look careless. Strip metadata from PDF files so recipients only see what you meant to send.

Remove AI-generation labels

Strip the C2PA Content Credentials and AI tags that ChatGPT and Gemini add to generated images, so they aren't automatically labeled when you reuse them.

Supported files and limits

  • Supported formats: PDF, JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF and HEIC.
  • Free accounts: files up to 50 MB.
  • PDFSimplified Pro: files up to 200 MB.

Privacy and file handling

Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection and processed on our servers. It is deleted immediately after the cleaned file is sent back to you — we don't keep a copy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove metadata from a PDF?

Upload the PDF above, click Delete metadata and download the cleaned file. The document properties such as author, title, creator and dates are removed.

Can I remove EXIF data from photos too?

Yes. Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF or HEIC image and the tool strips its EXIF metadata, including camera details and GPS location.

Is it free to delete PDF metadata online?

Yes. You need a free PDFSimplified account, which includes a free allowance of uses for files up to 50 MB. PDFSimplified Pro raises the limit to 200 MB.

Do you keep my files?

No. Files are deleted from our servers immediately after processing.

Why can't I upload my PDF?

The file may be larger than your plan's limit, password-protected, or damaged. Remove the password or check the file size and try again.

Can I remove AI metadata from ChatGPT images?

Yes. Upload the image and click Delete metadata. The C2PA Content Credentials and other AI-generation metadata that ChatGPT embeds are removed along with EXIF and XMP data.

Does it remove the AI watermark from Gemini images?

It removes the AI-generation metadata stored in the file. It doesn't remove SynthID, Google's invisible watermark built into the pixels, or any visible watermark drawn on the image.

What are C2PA Content Credentials?

C2PA is an open standard for recording where an image came from and how it was made. AI tools such as ChatGPT use it to embed a signed record that the image was AI-generated.
